  • 20+1
20+1An app designed to create a less daunting and fluid way for graduates and young professionals to connect. Networking through an interface more familiar with this generation. Social media makes for an easier way for people to express themselves, letting others know what they are doing, proudly displaying their work or achievements or by creating a network through friends and acquaintances. From university to work is not a step, it is an almighty leap. A leap in to the unknown. The dreaded job search, not knowing anyone, difficulty in getting your foot in the door or sharing your work. 20+1 was designed to help graduates to progress into the professional world. The idea was to design a professional networking app similar to LinkedIn, just less intimidating and formal. A way for graduates to display their work/portfolios to get recognition, post about recent business ventures and projects, invite one another to apply for jobs or events in which they can network. The branding name 20+1 came from a hybrid ideas. Firstly and most obviously, 21 is the age most people graduate from university. This is the age the app is targeted at. Secondly, +1 also refers to the networking side of the app. That the app will lead to adding more contacts, or being invited to events as a 'plus one'. And lastly 20+1 was a drinking game which is commonly played at university. And thus giving the app a fun and almost whimsical element, which is what I wanted the app to be perceived as in the first place.
  • Velvet Hammer Logo
Velvet Hammer LogoRedesign of Velvet Hammer's official logo. The company were looking for a sophisticated, agency-like logo. Inspiration was drawn from their diverse roster of rock artists and the general aesthetics of their website.
  • Broro Whiskey
Broro WhiskeyA minimalist design took inspiration from the simple bottle and the engraving of the iconic wildcat, for which the town holds in high regard. Dark colours taken from a palette of rosewood, copper and the rich whiskey colour creates a warm, masculine and earthy image, similar to the whiskey taste. The lines within the natural patterning of the native animal creates a illusion, creating a play on perspectives and drawing the viewers eyes to give focus to the product.
  • RYS
RYSTo design a product which uses the IOT. Then to create a realistic and high quality model out of ProLab. Rys is an alarm clock designed to get the user out of bed quicker. With my good understanding of people and psychology, I decided the best way to make someone do something is to reward them. Thus I designed the alarm clock to reward the user with online shopping vouchers/discounts if they got out of bed within the given time frame, and activated the app in a certain distance away from the clock. The quicker they activate the app the increased likelihood of a better reward. For this project I saw beyond just the product, but also a lucrative business partnership opportunity. By associating the product with online shops and brands, their sales and online traffic will increase greatly, therefore the user is persuaded to shop when given discounts.
  • Smart Plant
Smart PlantAn energy meter which doubles as a plant pot. Giving users a real time display of their energy consumption. Whilst metaphorically suggesting how their usage benefits or kills the earth. Therefore the product nurtures the plant depending on your energy consumption. If your usage is too high, the plant is starved of nutrients and water and will slowly die. If your usage is optimum and low, the plant will be provided everything it needs to thrive. The psychology behind this is to evoke an emotional response from users in order to make them want to change their behaviour. By feeling directly responsible for the death of a living thing, due to their actions. They may feel obliged to change them. Accompanied with an app, users are able to add users and through energy disaggregation technology, see who is most responsible for the plants wellbeing by adding electrical appliances to the users profiles.
