About me
Through the use of varied media, from documental photography to sculptural installation, my practice is driven by the desire to raise awareness on the sensorial and political potential of perceptions of spaces, nature and human exchange. I am especially interested in the concepts of surface, skin and its dual potential for fusion and separation, and through its membranes explore the connections and boundaries between people and places, inner and outer spaces, particularly from the bodily perspective towards nature, environmental and social concerns. In that pursuit, I focus on the multiplicity of perceptions and experiences of the sensuous and the spatial — as well as the exchange between them — as driving elements to/of my works. Materiality, perception and sensuality are currently central keywords in my practice, exchanging and changing according to their connections and disconnections, limitations and possibilities. The borders and porosities embodied and explored in places and materials that usually sit between bonding and clashing are what frequently provide (or deny) balance to my pieces.

  • Frieza
FriezaFrieza is the Portuguese word for “coldness”. It denotes a state of that which has no warmth. Lack of expressivity, involvement, sensuality. Impassivity, apathy. "Frieza" came in a moment of inability to feel photography for that which it looks (out) at. That which it tries to portray. My inability to feel effectiveness and completeness in working with photography as that which represents something external to it, standing on its own. The inability of photography to work in the image it develops
  • Surface
Surface"Surface" brings to surface the skin as its own matter. Skin over skin. An interplay between exposure and protection that keeps life going and stops life from being. Skin performing its duality to the point of itching in the longing to grasp its own substance. To the point of scratching and bleeding, erupting, just to find and show under itself another layer of skin. The photographic macros portray the skin over the lens, over the sensor, over the screen, over the eye, over the skin. It is surf
  • Chão
Chão"Chão" is the result of a performative act and a performative act in itself. It is that which was left behind, what keeps being, marking, staining, changing. Traces of what once was and what is (be)coming. For months I photographed grounds. Walking unknown streets with my camera once again dressed in macro lenses — Maybe to this time finally be able to see the porosity of things, the spaces that will allow me in? —, once again looking down, the floor I was before just stepping over started leaki
  • Horse Studies
Horse Studies"Horse Studies" are photographs of times when my relationship with horses was intense, but still not as intense as I wished it could be. The camera was an excuse to gain more proximity and a tool to understand deeper the connection between the animal person and the animal horse.
  • Behind the Scenes
Behind the ScenesIn "Behind the Scenes" the boundaries between actors on Fashion Week shows are blurred, as well as the characters they play on stage. All under the fashion garments and gears but more than ready to come out, revealed before, after, out, and back-stage. The photos were produced as a personal, parallel project during my work breaks covering several Rio Fashion Weeks, when I was commissioned as a photojournalist to photograph the event in Rio de Janeiro.
  • Earth's Membrane
Earth's Membrane"Earth’s Membrane" is part of an investigation about the textural possibilities of nature and it’s visual exploration throughout photography. It is concerned with exploring textural and sensorial possibilities and impossibilities, exposures and protections in between nature — in its human and inhuman branches, continuations — and photography. The images were created in a process of catalysis through senses (specially touch) resumed through the photographic practice. It condenses an attempt of co
