About me
I design transformative spaces to allow audiences to experience different worlds. Creative, determined and meticulous, I have an eye for detail and a skill for designing spaces which captivate and immerse audiences. During my course, placement and voluntary positions I have developed interdisciplinary design and presentation skills.
Projects
  • Cabinets of Costume
Cabinets of CostumeThe collaboratively designed exhibition, Cabinets of Costume, accompanied the international conference; Culture, Costume and Dress 2017. Working closely with the exhibition curators, conservators, conference team and gallery managers we transformed the Parkside Gallery into a forgotten workshop. The immersive space invited the audience into the world of a costume designer, offering a rare insight into their understanding of characters, art, anthropology and an intricate knowledge of how clothes express personality. Exhibiting archives dating back to the 1700s as well as work by contemporary designers, current students and reconstructions of historical garments, Cabinets of Costumes displayed the different techniques of the costume designer, emphasising the detail and art in every individual design and the costume designer’s integral role in bringing a character to life.
  • Just So Festival 2017
Just So Festival 2017A festival design project to design a ‘higgledy piggledy’ Post Office to provide the families of the Just So Festival audience contact with the new Just So Festivals opening in Brazil and New Zealand. This project included liaising with the festival team and my design partner to communicate ideas and design proposals prior to the festival set up. During festival set up I was working as a team leader with other volunteers, organising timetables, making props, sourcing furniture and set dressing the space to realise the design.
  • A Museum for Blackpool
A Museum for BlackpoolA university module designing for a live brief set by Casson Mann. The task was to design the concept for part of a permanent museum to appear in Blackpool Winter Gardens celebrating the heritage and history of the town. At the conclusion of this project, every student presented their designs to Gary Shelley from Casson Mann, on the merit of my design and presentation I won a 5 week placement with the company.
  • Bonsoir Chat Noir
Bonsoir Chat NoirBonsoir Chat Noir is a design for an ongoing set of secret events which allow you to enter the underground, elusive and extraordinary world of cabaret. The performance lineup, consisting of new artists, is unknown before the event and the location is only disclosed a few days prior. Tickets are seemingly unavailable; hopeful ticket holders have to be reffered by a previous audience member- advertisment relies on word of mouth. Within Bonsoir Chat Noir the line between audience and performer blurs. The experience creates a community of like-minded people; there to escape the routine of daily life and enjoy the thrill of the cabaret, for ‘in here life is beautiful’.
  • Powder Keg
Powder Keg Theatre set and costume designs for the 12 scene play Powder Keg by Dejan Dukovski. My design is influenced by Bertold Brecht, using signs to indicate each chapter of the almost graphic-novel style play. At the end of each scene the set would be adapted by the actors; a tally mark would be added to the back wall following each violent act in the play. The picture above is of the final scene, with the tally totalling 10 and the name of the play scrawled across the wall in red paint. The set represents a derilict warehouse full of broken furniture, household items and crates. These ould be used to create abstract representations of each different setting.
