Has anyone else struggled to keep up with Instagrams Algorithm change? I seem to be really struggling to gain much reach with my posts

If there are any other creatives/businesses trying to get more people to see their work maybe we should start an insta thread??Pop a link to your insta in the comments and I'll give ya a follow and hopefully others will too! mine is https://www.instagram.com/rosiestobbie/ see ya on insta! #creativessupportingcreatives

  • OMD tell me about it!! Instagram algorithms are sooo frustrating. This is such a lovely idea thanks so much for organising!

    My insta is: npl_illustration https://www.instagram.com/npl_illustration/
can't wait to see all your instas :))
  • Yeah! let's like ♥️, follow and grow each other.

    Here's my page:

  • I had the same! Realized a couple of days ago about the likes!
Thanks for doing this, such a great idea! https://www.instagram.com/ria.szucs/
  • @Alister Shapley Im glad I posted, I was starting to feel worried like I had lost touch with it, but it seems that I am not the only one having these issues! I think thats a really good idea, to use it more like a sketchbook, as it takes that pressure away to look "established". For me, someone that is trying to get their foot in the door, I was starting to focus my work on just building my insta page, which I really don't feel anyone should be doing (unless that is your career goal/passion) because it does bring on anxiety! I'll give both your pages a follow! look forward to seeing bits of your work :)
  • Thanks for starting this thread, it's really interesting to hear everyones opinions and ideas of how to get traction. I've noticed that the engagement my posts have been having has dramatically decreased. I think videos are more impactful and generate engagements as previously mentioned but it also feels you need to use instagram full time to actually see any real gains from it. To be honest I'm taking a step back from social media and using it more as a "sketchbook of ideas" than something that will gain clients; it's still good old networking that's been the best for me. Just if people are insterested here are my instagram pages – https://www.instagram.com/alistershapleyprint/ and https://www.instagram.com/asdesignlondon/
  • @Joel Barney It's really frustrating! it almost feels like it's happened over night and it makes it harder for people entering the creative world to get noticed. Theres a lot of interesting advice in the replies, defo have a read through if you havent already. Is your instagram account your name?
  • @Anita Arabadzhieva Hey! I have definitely noticed the same when it comes to the time of the day as well, it's hard to keep on top of it all, Social media really has become a skill in itself! Really helpful advice and I love your illustrations btw, I can see you're a furniture lover like myself!
  • @Sam Brandon Great advice! Thankyou, yeah tbf as someone who looks for other creatives for inspo on instagram this does make sense! I also find the whole hashtagging process stressful as it can feel almost clickbaity even if it genuinely relates to what i'm posting?! Love your illustration and animation style btw!
  • Exactly the same here! Images I feel that would usually get a lot of likes have been flopping.
  • Hi Rosie! I've started being more active on Instagram for the past month and the process of getting engagement is quite slow. I've been posting mainly my illustrations and I've noticed that the response to the posts also depends on what part of the day you're sharing them. Using hashtags could help but I think that networking and discovering other work does big part of the job. For example, when I'd engage with other peoples' work - like a post or leave a comment, they're more likely to open my profile and appreciate my work or even give a follow. Also,it's really important to find your target audience and focus your work/ posts on that. It's much easier for people to come back to your profile and follow you if they relate to the stuff you're sharing! Hope that helps! I've given you a follow already :)

  • Yeah. You have to be REALLY active now to gain any sort of traction. Showing the process of your work, offering tips, ideas, etc. also really boosts engagement. It's much less about the hashtags you use and more about the content. Basically, instagram wants users to offer value, and to be fair, users will want to follow people who offer some sort of value in their posts.

  • Yes! I've tried not using hashtags on some posts and there's been little difference. I think video definitly helps but if video isn't where you're at then... I definitly prefer authentic :) https://www.instagram.com/kerrycurl/
  • @Joseph Happy I do use hashtags but when I look at how many people have found my page through them it always really low? I'm not too sure whats going on but it's taking the fun away!
  • @Teresa Batista Followed back! thats interesting, I hadn't thought about IGTV maybe more people are heading over to that part of insta rather than scrolling through the usual feed or explore page?? Thanks for following!
  • Yes I'm having the same issue, I was wondering what was up with my posts! IGTV is a big way to get more attention to your posts. I'm going to start posting more videos there and then track it. Just followed you - My insta: https://www.instagram.com/teresa_madeline/
