How do you record great ideas you have before you might want to do anything with them but before you completely forget what they were?

So that you don't end up being frustrated that you had a great idea that you know you'll never get back to https://fromsarahspen.blogspot.com/2021/04/and-will-there-still-be-jam-for-tea.html

  • Hey! I use Notion. It’s a mix of the phone notes + calendar + journal. I love it because everything is on the same app x) and then I have a specific page for notes and divide them by “to watch”, “to read”, “random thoughts”, etc.
  • I love this question so much that I created a post on my Instagram to share how I record my best ideas and reflections :) It's a combination with Google Keep and other tools. Check it out here:

  • Write a short pithy statement to capture it’s essence — about five words if possible.
If I can't remember it, the idea’s probably not that great.
  • Hey Sarah, I keep this note in my phone at all times:

    REACH OUT TO

    WATCH

    READ

    LISTEN

    SEARCH

    BUY

    ATTEND

Anytime anyone mentions something to watch, read, or if I watch something or read something brilliant, and want to thank the creator, I jot it down in my phone. It's a really great system for ensuring all those great recommendations (and potential creative inspirations/ influencers) actually end up entering our life, and aren't just another thing we forget. I also jot little ideas down in here, too.
  • Hi Sarah

I can’t tell you the power of Notes on my iPhone.

I use it to record bits of thinking and voice messages and pictures or diagrams. Plus, any writing or reading that goes with the idea is simply added.

Hope that helps and Stay Boom!

  • Buy a really nice notebook that’s expensive. More than you’d normally pay x3.
You won’t lose it or forget where you put it.

Phones, apps, notes etc are great too but something about a special book does make it stick and I’ve been doing that for years.
  • @Sarah Davies The idea will come back to you when you least expect it. Like, when you're carrying two bags of groceries or when you're swimming in a lake. haha
  • Hi, Sarah -- I've been working in digital media for a few decades now, and am pretty comfrotable with digital tech as a whole, but I find that when it comes to capturing ideas on the fly, a good old-fashioned analog pocket notebook (with a loop to hold a small pen or pencil) is hard to beat. I know a number of creatives who swear by voice recorder apps -- like Voice Memos on iPhone -- but in my experience a small notebook is the most efficient method for quickly jotting stuff down.
