Is it beneficial to have two separate hard drives to backup the same images?

I use the sand disk hard drive to backup my images but would you recommend having another hard drive to store the same images just in case?

  • As someone that’s lost two hard drives in the space of one year, I’ll suggest cloud storage as a second option. Unless you’re extremely careful
  • I have one copy on a hard drive and one on Dropbox, which you can access from anywhere to send some files. I edit from hard drive (photos and videos). It works well.
  • Definitely! You have no idea how many times I’ve lost images because a hard-drive has suddenly corrupted the files! Once it happens you never do anything without a backup ever again. Now I backup on the cloud as well as I work on the files to have the working files backed up too lol
  • @Amin McDonald thank you sooo much! That was very beneficial advice! I think I’ll definitely try that instead of only relying on hard drives 😊🤲🏼
  • I used to have a LaCie hard drive to store all my photos and vids on but I got really worried once I heard scratching in the drive. This sound cliche but using Google Drive actually saved me so much stress. I would say keep the Sandisk and have cloud storage as back up. I usually work on my current projects with the hard drive and then back up everything onto Drive as I go along. It’s a bit tedious but it’s honestly worth it. Oh! Also paying monthly or annually for it isn’t that expensive if you’re working on paid jobs :) hope this helps
  • @Jayah III Dropbox has smart storage so you don't have to have everything mapped to a local drive. You probably need to be able to mount a cloud drive to work from it - if you're on a mac have a look at this article https://www.macgasm.net/software/mount-cloud-storage/
  • @Latifu Laoye thank you so much!! Will definitely be taking that on board 😊
