Name an underestimated filmmaker that, in your opinion, deserves more credits.

  • @Ross McClure that's a nice list to add to my watchilst! I agree with you, I want to discover more projects outside the mainstream cinema. Thank you for your input :)
  • @Beatrice Garcia Will definitely check him out, I've been binge watching documentaries lately. It's a peak into somebody's reality from the comfort of your safe bubble.
  • Good question! I would say that there is still too much of a focus on feature film directors being the quintessential 'ideal' of a filmmaker and we should consider directors who work in online, digital and of course the TV world.

I'm a fan of these people right now -

    The Safdie Brothers
    Ari Aster
    Robert Eggers
    David Lowery
    Sean Baker

    Danny Sangra
    Rally Ridberg
    Rob Savage
    Freddie Hall
    Dean Puckett

    Zac Ella
    Ninian Doff
    Oscar Hudson

    Kate Herron
    Hiro Murai
Bill Hader (who moved into directing with his show Barry)

    Check them out!
  • Thomas Vinterberg (Celebration, Another Round). I think film buffs probably know his work but he deserves wider acclaim if you ask me. Also, Pawel Pawlikowski (Ida, Cold War, My Summer of Love), Ashghar Farhadi (A Separation, About Elly, Everybody Knows).
