What’s your biggest challenge as a creative entrepreneur?

And do you even like this term?

  • I think it's balancing the commercials of a project with creativity. You need to earn an income and gain your worth. However, it can be difficult to put a price on that! Can financials crush creative spirit? Or, do limitations spark innovation? It's a big part to figure out as a creative entrepreneur.
  • @Jag Singh let me know how you get on. I know other people also like to meet up and work together to keep each other accountable. This wouldn’t work for me (I love collaborating but need to be myself to work through ideas or to write) but possibly another thing to try? The other thing is to run your projects like a project manager. If you have a list and know how much time each task should take, etc this might help too.
  • @Louisa Tan haven’t tried a timer but that’s interesting. Give structure/some kind of guide to help manage how much time you allocate to a task. Interesting. Im working on the ‘purpose’ of the task and what I want to get out , knowing what I want to do- work in progress.
  • @Jo Marie Brent structure as well sometimes. I find the week after school holidays always a bit tricky but I try to ‘include’ this as part of my plan now so I’m not stressed by it. Also having a list of actions so I’ve always got a plan (sounds a bit boring but it works for me). For me, my biggest challenge has always been confidence but I find just keeping on going - and not worrying about what anyone else is doing - helps me build that. I’m less worried about what anyone Thanks so much for sharing with me! I really appreciate it.
  • @Vikki Ross …on the other hand, if you find it really hard, I think it’s really good to bring someone else on board (if you can). The other thing I was to thinking about was being really present and purposeful: so knowing that those difficult things (accounts, admin, pitches, etc) were all enabling and making the creative work possible. Still thinking about this though!
  • @ɐɹoᗡ ɐuu∀ ˥ yes, I agree with the tech association and it not feeling ‘right’ but also wonder if it creates more perceived value? (Did you see the structurally f*cked report?) I don’t have an answer but really appreciate you sharing your thoughts with me.

Relevance and staying ahead is really important too. Is this more a feeling though? Your work is amazing! 💥
  • @Jag Singh I’ve been here too! Have you tried using a timer? I allocate how much time I want to spend on tasks and that can help. Sometimes you do need to go down the rabbit hole though… there are good ideas and connections there! The other thing I think about time management is about being ‘present’ and having a ‘purpose’: if you go in knowing exactly what you need, or having an idea of what you’re looking for, you’re less likely to get lost and feel like you’re wasting time. Love to know what you think.
  • @Hanna Serozhko yes! I hear you! Are you a part of a group or do you have friends you can ask? I’ve got a really good group of friends that I get to give me feedback and I find it really helpful - but it’s about finding the right people! They understand my vision and know I want to make my work as good as it can be, and are never horrible about my ideas. I’m also setting up a community for this type of thing as well. Lmk if you’d be interested.
  • Time management! Where does time go man. Biggest challenge I’ve had is learning how to manage my time. It’s easy to go into that rabbit hole, but if you’re not patient, you just keep digging and can get lost and engrossed in your work.
  • Hey, such a good question
As for me it is lack of feedback if you are working on smth on your own
  • Hi Louisa,

I personally not a fan of the term itself, would describe what I do with quite a few names but entrepreneur is not one of them. I feel like it has a tech taste in it although theoretically I can see creatives deserve just as much the title.

The most challenging part is always staying relevant, I feel like there is always a new thing which is may not the most relevant for client needs it's easy to feel like a dinosaur if I don't keep myself up to date constantly.
  • All the non-creative stuff - hate it! The admin, accounting, new business bits. Urgh!
  • STRUCTURE. Working from home. Managing my own schedule. Getting distracted :) How about you?
