Experimenting with the production and editing tools to hand, six artists live stream a performance from home, responding to the provocation I Should Be Doing Something Else Right Now. A series of quick-fire commissions from Studios artists exploring work, play and process.
Titled Country Diary, Warburton’s broadcast will challenge CGI and AR’s move to environmentalism and the ways in which virtual spaces have been used to connect people with nature, critically commenting on tech art bringing people closer to nature through modes such as VR, using equipment with high carbon footprints.
In a creative climate in which technology is often subject to suspicion, evangelism or nostalgia, Alan’s technologically articulate practice seeks to confront the tricky world of high-end digital imagery head on. Through his work – which includes digital images, CGI films, AR and VR experiences, critical writing and video essays - he instigates an investigation into what it is that software does, how it both shapes and is shaped by culture. His work explores the spectacular uses of technology as well as speculating on radical alternatives.
This live stream will air as part of the special Sleep Mode week, connecting to themes of ‘always on’ culture and the future of work and play in a post-pandemic society.
