We are a team of environmentalists making a children's book about overfishing in West Africa and its links to salmon farming and greenhouse agriculture. We're passionate about making a beautiful book that covers that topic and aims to introduce Key Stage 2 children (7-11 year olds) to the environmental and social consequences of capitalism. The book will also be a beautiful but provocative political artefact sent to politicians across the world.
We're looking for an illustrator from The Gambia, Senegal or Mauritania who might be keen to join such a project (you could be living abroad but we want to promote local talent and pay homage to these countries covered in our story). The work is paid, and we would love the opportunity to help support an early career artist from one of these countries.
The work would involve a cover design, along with 8-10 plates of varying complexity/levels of detail. We have some funding, but please note that this is not a commercial book, but rather an artistic/political product that will generate no revenue.
