Description

Closing Date: 30-Sep-2024

Join our team at the Guardian and be a part of a diverse and inclusive global organisation that delivers fearless, investigative journalism, and holds power to account. Our team of award-winning journalists, cutting-edge commercial professionals, and industry-leading digital experts are committed to making a difference and represent a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives.
We are now looking for an executive producer to oversee and produce our weekly political audio programmes: Politics Weekly UK, Politics Weekly Westminster and Politics Weekly America.
The UK podcasts attract a cast of voices from up and down the country as well as across the political spectrum to analyse the week's political news, with John Harris, Pippa Crerar and Kiran Stacy hosting PWUk and PWW, and Jonathan Freedland leading our US politics podcast.
This is a 10 month fixed term contract, 4 days per week (Monday - Thursday).
About the Role
  • Oversee the editorial for Politics Weekly UK and Politics Weekly Westminster and Politics Weekly America
  • News clarity; be able to choose the right stories and create clear episode structures that follow a conversational thread
  • Oversee guest booking and make sure that the right mix of voices are booked
  • Brief presenters; you must be interested in politics both inside and outside Westminster, and be able to help hosts shape their thoughts and structure their arguments
  • For episodes recorded ‘on-the-road'; show genuine curiosity for differing views and be able to work dynamically in the field, including recording audio
  • Manage a small team of producers and work with hosts and other editorial colleagues
About You
  • Proven track record in making the highest quality audio programming
  • Strong journalistic credentials and experience in conversational formats
  • Possess a background in news and current affairs podcasting
  • Experience of overseeing output, for example as an Executive Producer, Editor or Senior Producer
  • Proven track record in news story telling and working with presenting/hosting talent
  • Ability to make high-level content decisions
  • Ability to manage a small team, including budget management
  • Ideally, you'll have a demonstrable ability to bring a diverse perspective to this role
We actively encourage applications from candidates who are Black, Asian, minority ethnic or from other groups traditionally underrepresented in the UK media.
