At a glance:
  • Salary range - The Partnership salary range for this role is set at £57,000 - £81,000 (dependant on experience)
  • Contract type - This position is a Permanent contract
  • Working pattern/flexible working - We know flexible working is important to you, and it is important to us too. The Partnership has adopted a blended working approach meaning you'll be able to work a mixture between the office and home based upon your personal needs whilst balancing the needs of the business. The Sales and Planning team aim for around 1-2 days a week in the office to connect and on a more ad-hoc basis to attend key meetings but again, are flexible on this.
  • Location - London Office campus in Pimlico. Please note, any cost incurred as a result of travel to the office is the responsibility of the successful candidate. There is no travel allowance for this role. There is also a responsibility to visit our John Lewis Suppliers and Trade/Supplier events when necessary. You will be able to claim travel expenses for these journeys.
  • FYI - This role is in the process of its names being changed from Senior Retail Media Sales Manager (old), to Retail Media Sales & Planning Senior Manager (new).
About the role:
As a Senior Sales and Planning Manager in the Commercial Retail Media profession you will work with Commercial and Customer Marketing experts to understand details of commercial agreements and the value of Client funds to be spent against internal assets alongside creating and delivering a strategy to unlock new revenue from new business streams.
You will develop insight and data led planning strategies for your larger brands to ensure spend is maximised against available inventory, delivering maximum return for both JL and the brands and aligning brand’s spend ambitions with the customer plan to maximise the outcome for all parties. You will support your team to maximise their own client relationships and deliver on individual revenue targets for their areas.

  • Marketing team to ensure to support the Profession.
  • Pan Partnership Retail Media Strategy & Proposition team
  • Waitrose Retail Media sales team
Key responsibilities:
  • Plan out and create insight and data led proposals to brands for both campaigns and tactical spend, looking for constant opportunities through that relationship to increase the opportunity to gain incremental revenue.
  • Create a strategy within your category vertical to understand how to approach different brands and allocate the right SLAs.
  • Balance spend ambition vs internal Customer Plan and when to push brands or stakeholders harder to deliver the best outcome for the business, brands and our Customers (Win Win Win objectives)
  • Maximise brand retail media investment in JL by creating great relationships and developing credibility with them.
  • Ensure brands are given robust ROI feedback on campaign performance to support future investment decisions to help further investment
  • People Management of immediate team within category, ensuring that Partners grow in their role and are held accountable for their results.
What will you be doing?
  • Build relationships, proactively plan opportunities and negotiate with our most strategic brands to maximise retail media revenue
  • Align brand spend ambition and plans with JL Customer Plan
  • Work with JL Commercial teams to collate agreed commercial terms with brands to inform which negotiations must be prioritised and establish a plan for revenue opportunity incrementally.
  • Use Customer Insight and data to develop plans and best practice that improves the process for the brand, drives efficiency and captures more revenue
  • Build retail media sales strategy for the category vertical
  • Lead and coach team to embrace planning & sales strategy aligned to clear business goals
  • Collaborate with John Lewis Customer Marketing  teams to align plans to Commercial and Brand  ambitions
  • Embraces new ways of working to improve efficiency in the booking process such as the Sales Enablement Tool
  • Own the commercial forecasting process for Retail Media with Commercial teams to ensure alignment in the size of benefit available.
Essential skills you’ll need:
  • Experience working directly with brands and agencies to help build out and sell Retail Media activation plans for brands.
  • Consultative media planning & sales experience with a proven track record of meeting and exceeding revenue targets.
  • Strong levels of stakeholder management - can influence vertically at all levels as well horizontally to deliver the best outcomes.
  • Understands marketing assets, how to appraise their value and negotiate best price.
  • Strong data and insight planning experience with an ability to manage several competing priorities to deliver the best outcome for the brand, business and customers.
  • Experience managing direct reports and/or task management
Desirable skills you’ll have:
  • Experience of working with/in Marketing customer functions where media assets are sold into external marketing teams
  • Strategic planning with/in Media Sales, Marketing functions and/or Agency
  • Experience of working with Marketing Agencies
  • Experience of working with large brands in a Marketing environment, balancing brand needs versus the Commercial priorities.
