Job Introduction
Senior Journalists working on the BBC’s live news channel, BBC News, are at the heart of our production operation. Working in the live and fast-paced news gallery you’ll run live and breaking output as well as flagship programmes across the TV schedule as well as our streaming operation. You’ll be engaged in both UK and international news agendas and understand how to make stories relevant for both. You’ll be a leader in your team, comfortable giving direction to those working around you at all levels.

The main responsibility for a Senior Journalist is writing, building and driving high quality live and continuous news output at speed and with utmost accuracy. Working with Assistant Editors you’ll lead a team in curation, commissioning and outputting news coverage. You’ll co-ordinate with the rest of BBC News to get the best material on-air as well as amplifying content from BBC News channel output. You’ll manage, mentor and train Journalists, Journalism Researchers and freelance workers. There may be opportunities to work on outside broadcasts in the UK and around the world. BBC News is on-air around the clock so you will need to be able to work flexibly as part of a 24-hour, 7-day a week rota. Overnight and weekend working is required.

About the BBC
The BBC is committed to redeploying employees seeking suitable alternative employment within the BBC for different reasons and they will be given priority consideration ahead of other applicants.
