Ada - 3d printed vases with London startup Batch.works

This project started when I met Batch.works at Containerville in East London and asked help for another project of mine, from that basis we started talking and ended up working together. Batch.works is London startup making affordable and eco-friendly products that make most of 3D printing’s speed and efficiency. They use Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), which involves melting plastic filament at high temperatures and building up objects in layers. It is incredibly fascinating to design for a completely new manufacturing technique and I feel very privileged of being able to participate in this project. 3D printing allows shapes and forms that are not possible otherwise. More importantly, there is very little waste compared to traditional methods - products are made to order, from recycled plastic bottles or plant based plastic (completely biodegradable!). I love the surface detail that is created by FDM so my aim was to create shapes that celebrate the technique. I also wanted to avoid being purely utilitarian and add some organic softness in the shape. As a result ADA is a product family with soft morphing shapes and willingness to adapt in your life everyday. The name pays tribute to the worlds first computer programmer, Ada Lovelace.
