The competition invited emerging practices to propose a ‘creative mini-hub’ which could occupy a disused light industrial unit for two years, providing start-up space for architects and other creative companies. Our winning proposal proposes the reconfiguration of the existing garage and its conversion into a flexible modular workspace capable of putting on a number of different events and providing an environment for startups to proposer. Phase two of the winning design proposes the erection of a temporary external timber structure. The timber structure is designed from standard timber sections sourced from local timber merchants. The structure consists of proprietary structural elements that can be craned and bolted together easily on site. The structure is designed to be temporary and totally de-mountable at the end of it’s life - becoming an asset that can be sold on or re-purposed for use in local community projects. We are working on this project in collaboration with Whitman Wilde Architects. Status: Competition Shortlisted
