Total immersion in a project that tested my abilities, strengths and weaknesses the most was being granted a temporary and very intense promotion leading to increased involvement within the planning, organising, deliverance and supervision side of a youth arts festival within Nottingham Contemporary.
My enhanced role included dissecting, communicating and aiding in the realisation of the gallery's young people's collective vision in conjunction with other employees, freelancers, contractors and funders. Adapting marketing methods along with collaborations with schools and youth groups was imperative to success. Supervising the formulation of ideas, through to guiding the development and production of on and offsite projects was key to reaching our aims as a group.
Organising recruited individuals meant writing up information packs and schedules for workshop artists and volunteers, harmonising the work of different departments and of course ensuring the smooth running of all elements during the event. Post-festival responsibilities included writing up reports, actioning invoices, sourcing reviews and feedback, and maintaining momentum for future endeavours. There were many strict deadlines and parameters, with many fluctuations and changes to the set course, and meeting these time frames with the correct accomplishments was vital to achieving a successful festival, and has been the case with events and projects since.
