Ontario Lottery and Gaming Company's quarterly casino payments to Peterborough help fund critical infrastructure projects. For example, since 2022, more than CA$1.6 million of casino money has been spent on new Quaker Food City Square, Splash Pads, city trails and bicycle projects in downtown Peterborough.

Every quarter, OLG sends a payment to the city for the host community to Shorelines Casino Peterborough. The allocation is determined by the game's revenue rating for the place. Since the opening of the game hotspot in October 2018, the city currently collects more than CA$8,687,987 in non-tax game revenue from OLG.

In fiscal 2022, the city received a total gaming fund of C$1,588,620. Last week, Peterborough Mayor Jeff Reel met with representatives of OLG and casino operator Great Canadian Entertainment at Quaker Food City Square to discuss and celebrate how game payments were used by the city administration.

According to the city, more than CA$677,909 of the proceeds from gambling was used to fund the construction of the new Quaker Food City Square. The city also used part of its revenue to support new splash pads, the construction of a new Canadian canoe museum, the Central Community Improvement Plan initiative, and the expansion of the city's trails and bicycle network.

The city administration has also notified that more than CA$1.8 million of Crown Corporation's gambling proceeds will be invested in the city's urban forests. This includes planting trees and maintaining the health of the community's urban forest canopy, which will be carried out throughout the year.

OLG Chief Urban Relations Manager Kathleen Devine said the Crown was pleased to be a major part of Peterborough for more than a few years. She said OLG also expects to further strengthen its revenue support. Finally, she also thanked the casino staff for making Peterborough's life much better for the locals.

Earlier in the new year, OLG sent Q3 gaming allocations to the Ontario host community. Peterborough received a total of C$707,495 from October 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022. It should also be noted that for the current fiscal year ending March 31, 2023, the city recorded a staggering amount of C$2,217,922.

Over the coming quarter, casinos are expected to bring in larger gambling payments due to the start of retail sports betting. At the end of October 2022, the casino became one of the first casinos in the province to offer sports betting directly through a sports betting kiosk.
