As a jewellery designer living in Hong Kong, I love to explore the limited aspects of nature within a predominantly concrete jungle. I truly feel that there is an oasis within every vast and bare expanse of the desert.
My work was inspired by my experience in Hong Kong’s Geo park and a Chinese poem “The nature lives with us in symbiosis, and everything is with us as a whole.” The meaning of the poem is that there is no unequal difference between humans and everything, humans cannot dominate nature, and as long as we maintain harmony with nature, we will naturally be able to recognize the beauty of life and happiness.
I am interested in the idea of harmony between humans and nature in the context of natural law; the concept is also the highest level of modern environmental protection. Therefore, I want to explore the meaningful actions of human intention to experience nature through the creation of jewellery for audiences and share the happiness of human coexistence with nature. The materials used in the work are silver and gold plated brass, acrylic, alcohol link and steel. Moreover, the texture of the metal was directly remade from the substance, rock, predominant in nature. The use of transparent acrylic was to present the meaning of human coexistence with nature.
You might be able to see the subtle details incorporated into the work if you look clearly, which also reflects the potential our interactions with nature. I hope my audience can learn about the concept of the poem and recognise the beauty of life.
