I remember from last year, seeing the DAZED 100 list and hopping it would be me next year, and here we are again. At the start of the year I made a moodboard ticking of the many things I wanted to achieve, some of… a bit it too aspirational, but is anything too aspirational? I honestly don’t believe so since I beat a lot of odds between 18 and now 19. For starters my New York exhibition coming up next month, my first solo exhibition I had back in February along side my first international exhibition held in Nigeria back in August, supported by 2 other group exhibitions. I’d say for someone who is self taught…I sure seemed to keep turning heads, including my own.
This was my first solo exhibition for “The Kids are alright” in Spitafields market. A dedication to my aunt who has terminal liver cancer and my other 7 family members who passed from cancer, this was all featured in Notting Hill Arts club, group exhibition celebrating black artists as well as Nigeria. This body of work helped me recite my first front cover at Mag Culture in east London for the Magazine publishing society.
My New York Exhibition is underway and will be happening on December 7th. Held in Brooklyn celebrating black women.
My tenacious attitude kept shining bright throughout the year. Iv’e gone on to shoot editorial work and be featured in VOGUE as well as shooting for brands and developing unique styles along the way. This image taken from my project “Dear Motherland” is a documentation of the experience of being a generation immigrant, additionally it is supported by extensive interviews and is to be turned into a book.
Daisy Day, “The Bride” which is also featured in print, published by ARTEGO magazine
This year I had some really cool experiences with some DAZED features, for starters the DAZED billboards, as well as the monthly selection for members being published, as well as two magazine features, a year apart exactly. I’ve always seen DAZED as this open community where everyone can grow together and it’s true. DAZED has helped me grow, and given me opportunities that I wouldn’t be given so early in my career.
