I would like to be considered for a DAZED100 spot. I work as an artist, curator and architectural designer. I run art events focussing on digital art and culture. These have included exhibitions, performances, and panel discussions. I embrace multidisciplinarity in my architectural practice, largely focusing on the intersection of architecture and digital infrastructure. I graduated with an MA in Architecture from the Royal College of Art in 2023. In collaboration with Limbo Accra, I produced animation and interactive experiences to visualize a digital archive of unfinished construction projects. These pieces have now been exhibited internationally, including at the Akademie der Künste Berlin, Sharjah Architecture Triennial, and Chicago Architecture Biennial. Collaborating with Tom Hunter I co-curated and designed an exhibition of virtual landscapes earlier this year as part of London gallery Gossamer Fog’s In Vitro emerging curator programme. We opened up the opening, closing party and post-exhibition panel discussion at the RCA to Dazed Club members and we had great engagement with the artworks and discourse through this multifaceted approach. In June I produced an exhibition alongside William McLucas, ‘Post-Post-Industrial,’ a hybrid archive of the Beckton Gasworks with support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Through this part physical, part digital archive of film, site casting and digital scanning, they uncovered the vestiges of industry in this soon to be developed landscape. I have recently started a residency at the British School at Rome where I am focusing on virtuality through the lens of architectural illusionistic painting in the Baroque period and making connections to digital mixed-reality. Through analysis of baroque painted interiors, I juxtapose historical and contemporary attempts to extend spaces beyond the realm of physical architecture. The project poses a practice-based perspective on the visual continuity of these spaces to contemporary digital aesthetics. @archimclucas thomasmclucas.com
