Superimpose acting as Donald’s Creative Agency were briefed to create an immersive, multi-sensual experience for Glover superfans and the LA community, at the heart of Silverlake.

In 2018, adidas Originals announced a new partnership with Donald Glover, the actor, writer, director, comedian and rapper better known to his fans as Childish Gambino. For his debut release, Glover created a trio of sneakers constructed from off-white canvas intended to be used and abused, depicting well-worn sneakers as symbolic of a life well-lived.

Throughout the day, 150 guests in groups of 10-15 people experienced a guided tour of the mansion. Guests were each seeded a pair of Glover’s sneakers and instructed to put them on at the start of the tour.
The groups were then taken through a series of spaces, each providing a unique sensory experience, anchored by a series of 5 short films inspired by the collection.
Returning to the collection’s theme, the floors of each space was treated with a variety of materials intended to mark, stain and transform each guest’s shoes throughout the day; a red clay soil footpath; a honey-like substance in a room filled with beehives; the paint-splattered floor of an artist’s studio; and finally, an ornate parlour room transformed into an overgrown woodland forest complete with wood chips, moss and dirt.
Closing out the event, a backyard barbecue formed the backdrop of a Q&A session between Glover and his team, with guests encouraged to interact with the natural environment around them.
