DOPPEL is the first feature film of Fito Ridao, a delirious neo-noir fever dream that explores the depths a man’s obscur psyche through Virtual Reality (VR). Doppel and his partner will investigate who stole the simulator, a piece of technology able to create a virtual reality that is completely inmersive. They will investigate a suspicious aspiring model and hikikomori that might have the simulator but as they get closer to the simulator Doppel and his partner will get deeper into the rabbit hole.

A young disenchanted man works with his partner “Doppel” in the search of the simulator: a device capable of creating an immersive virtual reality. When they both get involved in the depressing life of a young MODEL, they start to mistrust each to the point that Doppel disappears without a warning. His partner will try to find both him and the simulator, by following the bizarre trail (the model and a hikikomori) that Doppel left behind.

The movie was shot entirely on 4K and has an original duration of 120 minutes but we have done a shorter version of 53 minutes to send to film festivals.

With a very low budget we have managed o tell a compelling story that engages an audience and still tell the story that we wanted to tell in the beggining.

The whole project took us two whole years from the creation of the screenplay to the preproduction to the postproduction stage. It is definitely a passion project that has initiated the whole team in the film industry.

In Japan, hikikomori are reclusive adolescents or adults who withdraw from society and seek extreme degrees of isolation and confinement.
