To come up with Various design ideas for a local jewellery establishment to celebrate 50 years of their business. The brief was to design a seven piece collection to be produced into either silver or gold, which is Contemporary in design and relates to Cornwall in some way. I interpreted this project through the inspiration of cornwalls coastline. My ideas were to use the dramatic coastline to form organic contemporary style Jewellery to be sold in a Traditional Atmosphere. For this project there were only deign ideas and drawings required, however wanting to make my own jewellery i got sidetracked into a more abstract style of jewellery. Here i collected lots of 'seajunk' that had been washed up in the extreme weather we had been experiencing, with the idea to turn it into wearable jewellery. These necklaces were made in a spontaneous fashion, with the only element of physical craft being the bronze casting of Collected and cured seaweed. These elements are the 'natural' elements that link the work back to the sea, along with the odd shell or stone. By turning these useless objects into necklaces it gives them value and changes the status of the material, and the necklaces then transforms an outfit into a statement about our planet and the things/issues that surround us environmentally. I would of liked to do a photoshoot colaberation with some earthy/hippy wear company as i feel that would enhance the work.
