Everyone in the UK has a right to request FLEXIBLE working

  • Joanna Byerley
Did you know that all employees in the U.K. have the legal right to request flexible working after 26 weeks of employment with the same employer?
An exclusive survey of The Times and The Sunday Times readers showed that more than 50 per cent of those who responded would like to continue working from home or working more flexibly as lockdown eases — and although 51% of men believed their employers would be open to it, only 39% of women thought so. So how can you make sure that you can keep the elements of flexible working that you like as lockdown eases?

Every organisation should have a flexible working policy for you to access, which clearly outlines both formal and informal flexible working arrangements and the processes to follow.
  • Firstly, learn your company’s flexible working policy by asking your line manager or HR department for a copy.
  • Then, decide whether you want to ask for a formal change to your working pattern or a more informal approach.
  • Finally, once you are clear on what kind of flexible working arrangement you would like, start with a conversation with your line manager.

GOOD LUCK!
