EXPERIMENTAL SPACE - 'SPARE CHANGE'

A small project in which I and a group used an empty space to covey a modern problem within the world. Using the issue of 'Homelessness' in todays society, we wanted to show the awful conditions in which some of these unfortunate people live. We wanted to show everybody what it was like, to live in these conditions. Whilst some elements like temperate could not be replicated, we did include wind through the use of a fan to represent the weather. To play on homelessness and lack of wealth, we used no money on any of the items features and instead had to rummage through bins to find what we needed. The sound demonstrated within the piece was used to highlight the difficulty of getting rest when car horns and violent strangers passing by are constantly interrupting you through the night. We entitled the piece 'Spare Change' to play on what most homeless people beg for and to question the viewer asking if they have time to not only spare some physical money for these poor people, but if they have time to help them and change their lives for the better.
