Exploring the Default Mode Network

  • Hildie Leyser

The default mode network is the network activated when we are not directing our brains to achieving a specific activity (this is the task positive network). The default mode network is responsible for thinking about others, thinking about ourselves, remembering the past, and planning for the future. It is associated with daydreaming and mind wandering. With conditions like ADHD the DMN is not easily switched off, and when completing tasks in the TPN it remains active making focusing on that task nearly impossible, I wanted to explore trying to get out of the default mode network through repetition and pattern whilst coming at it straight on.
