Sophia’s work began with her love of swimming, observing the flow of water, and the crisp geometric forms found in surrounding architecture. Shifting between painting, drawing and sculpture, her work conveys nostalgia and emotion attached to competitive swimming. The obsessive focus in her studio production, mirroring the immersion of mind and body when training in the pool. During her MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art, Sophia’s current work consists of a dialogue, exploring personal formative years and applying the concept, and her understanding, of ‘flow’ to her practice. FLOW MATTERS exhibits Sophia’s body of work born from her essay ‘Flow matters: A reflection’, which will be available to read at the exhibition.
