This project was created to break down the wall between womenswear and masculinity to challenge the perception that men cannot access ‘feminine’ cuts. The first look shows model, Simon wearing a champagne mesh dress from Weekday along with a pair of Olive satin suit trousers and classic white Balenciaga's. In the second look, Simon wears the Sio.Studio mesh sleeves, navy asymmetric smart trousers and the Goldsalt Figure necklace to accessorise. Having Simon's chest and torso bare in each look was intended to emphasise the fluidity of gender expression and rebel against the norm of male-identifying people having to wear garments that completely cover these areas, due to expectations borne out of homophobic sentiments within our society and undertones in traditional menswear design. Also, the combination of traditional menswear and womenswear garments shows how beautifully pieces can fuse together and further demonstrates how adhering to restrictive dress codes is redundant. This project was curated independently; all shots done and clothes sourced by me. Credit to Simon for scouting Margate as an ideal location to shoot! Again, all photographs were taken on an iPhone 11. This project was created as a result of resistance to gender norms and a vision for the future of what is 'acceptable' as menswear, as well as a drive to develop my vision and skills as a fashion stylist.
