Incarcerated

  • Agostina Cerullo

We are thrown into this world, into circumstances not of our own choice; often born into oppression. Resistance is necessary to challenge domination. The past persists and haunts us through an almost pre-determined and unchangeable present. The irony is that we are our own worst enemy, perpetually searching within ourselves for that meaning that will guide us through tomorrow. For the artist, these photographs explore the conflict within ourselves, whether it be a cultural, economic or a spiritual fight and the feelings of hopelessness that can overwhelm us while trying to break through those barriers. In the end, we recognise our disabilities realising that they are strengths and through overcoming our fears one can only become more powerful.
