Integrating Cultures

  • Georgia Pearce

My final year thesis focused on how refugees can repurpose abandoned buildings in Athens to provide new homes in their host city, and enabling them to transition from temporary camps towards integration into the city and broader society. This final major project borrows influences from vernacular Syrian architecture as a reference and memory of home for refugees arriving in Greece from that country. I believe that by understanding the domestic and functional architecture of a country, one gains insight into people's culture and values which helps understanding.
