  • Jay Sawyer Northbrook

Back in the dark ages of the Internet, say, 1999, it was possible to send traffic to a website by what is known today as the "Field of Dreams" of 1996. Jay Sawyer NorthBrook That was the year when companies could make dreams come true, if you had the right information. The portals back then were academic, government and corporate websites. In no time at all, search engines grew into be powerful +1 and +1 catapulted the website into the global information portal that it is today.

Jay Sawyer Chicago At around this time +1 also severely decreased the ability of the programmer to add new content. It also burdened the programmer with two major problems: one, it was getting really hard to code a page, and two, it was getting really hard to add new content. That is what really started the timeline marker for search engine usefulness. After the year 2000, the tonnage of the users searching for information on the internet started to saturate the search engines. Google vacuumed up all the relevant data gathered. Today, Google does more than serve up relevant search results - it serves up relevant pictures of the sun alongside computer results!

+1 also adversely affected the interest of site visitors. Once site visitors find what they +1'd, they often grew to ignore the links next to their search engine results.

Thus, the buck soon changes to who's going to pay for the visibility and who's going to pay for the attention. Advertising and promoting the website once was simply the placing of banner ads. The market grew midst the banner ads, and thus the banner ads grew to be three-to-four times larger than the search results. It didn't take long for the average web user to recognize that more frequently used keywords are just as applicable to their search as the more common keywords.

+1 smartly converts visitors into clients +1 smartly attracts visitors who have an immediate need for your product or service.

Jay Sawyer Glenview One of the most remarkable things about this is that +1 smartly converts visitors into clients- it goes far beyond just a top search engine ranking. This truly is the power of +1. What if you discovered that about 90% of your clients came from search engine traffic. When you discover that you have a high bounce rate (people coming to your site and immediately leaving) how would that affect your business? Well, you would most likely see that the majority of your web traffic isn't buying anything at all. The traffic that does come to your site is interested in what you have to offer, but they've come to your site looking for information first. +1 can help you convert those visitors into clients... and into customers!

exponentially increase dollars per month +1 can convert more visitors into clients - and customers are much more likely to purchase +1 items.

Consider engine optimization as the ultimate viral air flat. Every time a +1 gets forwarded, it creates more.. incoming!! +1's createtechnical bankrupting viral air flat fairly rapidly. It's a fact that Google can't judgeLookSmart's nor probable clientele's relevance., therefore, there's no way for them to know whether or not their links are valuable.

Link value is therefore entirely relative and sundry. It doesn't matter if the +1 is a recent reciprocal that was meant to be a real life A-1 hookup; it's still only one single key point for Google algorithm. Granted, one link from a real client is more valuable than 20,000 artificially created links from junk/False PR links, but we're just being realistic.
If Google allowed two websites to compete for a keyword, they would both need equally large quantities of text about the keyword in order to be listed together in the search engine. I am sure that Google would prefer it if Looksmart had simply submitted a bunch of junk articles with a bunch of useless links to Google. shame on you, Looksmart.

Jay Sawyer Chicago This is what I recommend to my clients. Have a list of your best keywords. Figure out where the maximum results for those keywords are. Determine the quantifiable and reputable results. One of the best methods to judge the quality of linking is to use the "Google it" method. You can find a ton of information at no cost whatsoever on Google Give it a whirl.

When you have your second list of keywords deluged, start adding links. For each page, write a few sentences or paragraphs that contain the keyword plus a link to the page that you wish to link to. When you have finished, go to Wikipedia Search for the term "link:" (without the quotes) followed by the URL of the page. You'll see a verification question. Answer truthfully that the page is valid and present a link to it. If you verified it with the web server, then you're all set.
