A short series of intimate photographs of a mother and her daughter being part of the black community in Leeds. I feel particularly attached to these portraits as I am part of the mother's life since we were in high school. Being a black woman in this too white world has always been challenging. At that age, a lot of teenagers don't really understand the weight words have when they come out of their mouth. The self-centred beliefs people have, mark irreversibly the path of diverse communities, even if two mothers with different skin colors shared the same hospital room when giving birth. Seeing this 15 year old girl becoming the strong mother she is now, keeping her black roots alive, despite all the prejudice and the meanness she had to face, made me admire her even more, not just for the good friend she is, but for the person she has become and always has been. Abigail was born in Italy from Ghanian parents and moved to the UK right after she turned 18. Here, she started to build her new life and now she has the little Kendra to look after, who will definitely become a precious human being.
