Location: The Conran Shop, Chelsea Date: 8th – 12th of May, 2019 London Craft Week at The Conran Shop this year celebrated all-things Bauhaus, marking the centenary of the influential German design school with a design-led talk by Sascha Lobe. With the help of Make-Ready, a Kentish Town-based printing studio in London, Lobe designed five limited-edition Bauhaus-inspired prints, to be printed live in-store. A printing station was installed as part of the window, enabling the public to take home a limited-edition glyph the same day. Working with Sascha and Make-Ready, the bold prints were incorporated into the window and amongst the store, paying homage to the influential German institution and it’s core values. I thoroughly enjoyed this live project, the customer was able to engage with the process and the maker, blurring the boundaries between art, industrial design, theatre and movement, capturing the essence of this artistic community by working and creating art together in one space. Two additional plinths were added in preparation for the event, showcasing the teak and olive-hued Mistral 104 Sun Lounger, designed by Rodolfo Dordoni and produced by outdoor furniture expert RODA, alongside the timeless Portuguese 5008 Chair from Adico. I painted both plinths in-line with the Bauhaus theme, using white, blue, black and burnt orange, with some product styling to finish. Images courtesy of Sascha Lobe, Bruno Rondinelli and Annie James.
