Lost in translation.

Arts been a medium for me to create discussions among communities and cultures, and to bridge gaps between the past and present. I am interested in how different communities communicate with one another and the impact of language and speech on the south asian diaspora. Lost in translation was created using these concepts wether that was through familiar visuals, smells and textures or through the careful consideration of the materiality that i've chosen to engage with. All of this plays an integral role creating an all encompassing, multi sensory experience with the audience It is important for me to use materials that reflect my associations to home like terra cotta clay, canvas, textiles or even jasmine scented wax. My work is interested in invoking feelings of nostalgia, , love, loss and comfort. Immersing these envelopes in wax reflect this stagnancy or stillness in communication and the idea that when we interact with the people we love or the people outside of that there is a chance of words or statements being lost in translation, there is sometimes a breakdown in the language. Using wax helps me reiterate the same narrative multiple times. It is a medium that is extremely flexible, allowing me to remake and modify these metaphorical barriers whenever I want. The breaking down and rebuilding of ideas, thoughts and notions is extremely significant to my practice.
