Major Project - Cursive Designs

  • Hannah Nardini

This project explores the importance of cursive handwriting expressed in a pattern form. Handwriting with pen and paper still has a vital role from early childhood through our adult lives, but more and more, people are shifting from paper to electronic modes of communication. Most people in our contemporary society are unaware of the key skills children can gain from handwriting such as: - Gross Motor Skills (Posture Base & Bilateral Coordination) - Fine Motor Skills (Sensory Perception & Hand and Finger Muscles) - Eye Tracking Ability - Spatial Awareness - Motor Memory - Visual Memory All these key skills help develop children's minds and physical wellbeing growing up. If a child shows deficiency within any of these skills, their handwriting can be strongly affected. My visual development of this project represents showing cursive handwriting in pattern form on everyday items that most of us use on a daily basis. In this instance, stationary items. The reason behind using stationary items is because we all (especially children/students) spend time using notebooks, paper, binders etc. to handwrite on a daily basis. I believe using cursive handwriting in a pattern form for each cursive letter gives a unique and visually effective perspective on how we all take handwriting for granted. Overall this projects aim is to teach our young children to spend less time typing and more time writing.
