Inspired after reading that a supermarket in New Zealand is the first to use “period” to label menstrual products (IN 2020!). Nicknames and products labelled with “personal hygiene” and “sanitary” make periods feel like a dirty secret. Language used around menstruation feeds into bigger issues including period poverty, girls missing school and playground bullying.
