It All Started With Letters is a poetry anthology curated by Ashinaga in 2017. The purpose of this was to allow students across the world to unite with poetry on the topics of education and empowerment. The book consists of 42 poems and 180 pages. The concept of the design was to have both reading formats simultaneously in English and Japanese. The user can read the book left to right in English, and right to left in Japanese, depending on what their preference is. The book starts on opposite sides and an indexing system that unifies the languages is included on each page to understand what part of the book you are in. The artwork was created by students supported by Ashinaga and accompanies the poetry in its emotional visual state. In collaboration with Clementine Maas.
