Final major project, featured on the website: The Budgie and the Manatee
This work is part of a digital camera-less exploration into the appropriation of Henri Matisse’s Cut-Outs. The process has been focused on the technique of cutting into colour and exploring the relationships between shape, colour and pattern.
It was said that when Matisse was no longer able to work in his garden, he created ‘The Parakeet and the Mermaid’ as a way of tending to it through his medium of cut-outs.
This piece is an appreciation of that.
