In 2019 I was commissioned to design a map for the Science Museum’s hands-on-gaming event, Power Up. This ongoing event includes over 180 consoles spanning the decades of gaming, showcasing the primitive programming of Pong as well as the latest Virtual Reality headsets. I chose to use the game Sims 2 as a 3d modelling platform to generate the skeleton of the map as a way of shining a light on the capabilities of modern gaming. Adobe suite was later used to embellish the map whilst using the graphic style of the game in order to present practical information about the event space. The map was distributed to visitors via a pre-visit email and printed versions were available to view at the museum’s information desks for the duration of the event. The project ended by delivering a short talk explaining my design at the spring all-staff briefing held in the IMAX theatre.
