Production Design for Southwark Splash 2015

'The Love Architects' was performed by 561, 8 – 10 year old children through singing, dance, instrumental performance, art and design for Southwark Splash 2015. Performed at the Royal Festival Hall on 24 June, the performance was part of Southbank Centre's Festival of Love and was produced by It’s All About the Music!

In preparation for the performance, Kathy Shenoy led visual art workshops with some of the students, producing material and concepts for the show, meanwhile learning the content of the performance. 2 year 4 & 5 groups created prints inspired by Wassily Kandinsky’s studies on primitive forms. They then brought their work to life through projection and VJing tools, performing live with controllers to animate their forms to the show’s musical score. 2 other groups created physical structures, forming models of their future cities which were then captured through video and shadow-work and transformed into silhouette imagery.

Working in collaboration with project map artists Studio Ondé, the work of the children was used to create a visual narrative and enhance the performance on stage. Enhancing the architecture of the Festival Hall organ pipes, projected lighting became a story telling device.
