Rander & I

  • Maaria Hatia

As a second generation Muslim Indian, I used this project to create a book that pays homage to my parents relation with the city of Rander, Gujarat, whilst allowing myself to discover my heritage and explore my Indian background, which I was never fully exposed to as a child. Along with this book, I also created a moving image documentary called 'Foul Nu Auru', which documents a hundred year old tradition that is only practised in Rander, Gujrat. After fixating on my mother's wedding photographs, I began to obsess over the images of her wearing the Randeri auru for her wedding in Rander. Following my mother's footsteps, I documented the process of the craft before carrying out the tradition myself.
