Re-Move

  • Oscar Ling-Cottey

During my second year of university, I was given the opportunity to work with fellow second year students from other courses as a group to produce a new concept for a solution to problems our generation, Gen-Z, face. The concept we came up with was 'Re-Move' - an app designed to tackle mental health issues, while also promoting a healthier and more environmentally-conscious lifestyle. The concept of our app was about removing yourself from social media and moving yourself outside by disabling your social media apps, and the only way to unlock them again was to go outside and walk to specific locations. The app would assign a location on the map for you to walk to and then, once you arrive, all your social media apps would unlock. The app would also feature a points-based reward system that works off your step count, i.e. the more steps you take, the more points you earn. Once you reach a certain amount of points, a tree would be planted. My contribution to the project was the initial concept idea and the logo design. I took the initiative on the logo because I have prior experience with logo design, but I also wanted to make something that clearly resembled the ethos of our app. I combined the exit sign figure with the outline of a phone to create the image of a person escaping their phone, and then made sure to use a vivid and bright green for the background to represent our focus on the environment.
