I had an incredible time at the Barbican, shooting with the highly talented Newaj Rahman, (@newajseyes on instagram) for a streetwear style shoot. This was my third time collaborating for a photoshoot and I love to reflect on how much my pose has improved and the progress I have made. I adore the creative process so much and in each photoshoot I'm always looking for new things to take on board. We shot in public which was a new experience for me, but one I felt very comfortable with. There were lots of curious stares and brief glances shot our way while we were shooting together - and even a stranger took a photo of us while we were shooting haha! But I really enjoyed it and I didn't feel as though it threw me off at all. The audience kept me motivated and I definitely owe this mindset to my training in stage acting. When in front of a crowd or in front of a camera, I feel 'in my element' as they say. It's something I've become so passionate about that I gain a sense of belonging from acting upon it and I can't even begin to explain how grateful I am to have found this happiness at such a young age. I learned many things from the experience: one of them being how beneficial a strong rapport with a photographer can be in terms of production. When you are comfortable and enjoy being in the presence of the people you are working with, the images often end up being far more genuine and more interesting. This is because you are free of worry and know that your crazy ideas will be considered, respected and accepted. Another more practical thing that I learned from this shoot is to keep my chin up! ... No, literally. The photographer informed me that my eyes are naturally hooded ever so slightly and it naturally casts a shadow underneath my eyes. To avoid this, I must angle my head more upwards to allow the sunlight to disperse the shadows. I will most certainly apply this to future photoshoots so that I can do my very best to improve. I'd love to collaborate with even more photographers, videographers, stylists, makeup artists and all other creatives in the future. If you like the sound of that, be sure to message me on instagram @lucy_lilac_ so we can arrange something!
