APPLICATION OVERVIEW
Sally & Possum Season 1 Application (S&P app) is a resource to extend the learnings explored throughout the first season of Sally & Possum.
The application is intended to accompany the season, but has been designed in a way that if a user has not watched the season, they can still complete all the activities in the application.
To keep the file size reasonable, video of the full episodes are not housed in the application, however instructions to access them will be on the About page.
The beauty of a touchscreen digital platform is it allows for the creation of a rich and immersive experience for the user combining:
• Interaction from Sally and Possum
• Episode excerpts for contextualisation
• Gamification of learning content
• Sign bank resource for extending learning
USER JOURNEY
The main navigation is visual and created by stitching photographs of the set together creating a linear landscape. Navigated horizontally by swiping the screen.
Placed on the landscape are illustrated nodes which when tapped activate a game. The user will need to travel through the games in a linear order. Completion of one episode's games unlocks the following game, which will be signified through visual signposting. This will structure the learning journey for users as well as reinforcing messages, as once you've unlocked an episode, it is possible to return to it anytime.
Each scene area houses 5 episodes with two games each, a total of 30 games.
Particularly for young learners, this progression through incentives is engaging and encourages the child to continue.
GAME TYPES
There are three game types:
• Spelling - watch the Auslan sign and finger spelling then unjumble the letters to spell the word
• Flash cards - watch the Auslan sign and finger spelling then select the object from four options
• Sorting - watch the Auslan sign and finger spelling of items on a list, select them in the correct order
GAME PLAY
Once the player chooses an episode, an interstitial from the episode will lead into the spelling game, which will always be the first game.
Once the spelling game is complete (4 words) the player will receive positive feedback from Sally or Possum to congratulate them for completing the spelling. This will be filmed content from the Sally and Possum set.
The next game will load, either flash cards or sorting. See page 16 for episode game allocation.
Again at the completion of the second game will be positive feedback.
