Self-reflection

  • Cristina Aguirre Bisi
This collection is a series of acrylic (and marker) illustrations on different wooden supports, some of which recycled.
The aesthetic of the series was inspired by the juxtaposition of clean and graphic Memphis design patterns to ancient South American artisanal art (mainly Peruvian “Mochica” pottery, and Azteca art).
The fusion of such different aesthetics represents a bond between design and concept, creating a bridge in which utility and significance meet pure aesthetic of design.
Mochica ceramics are not only utensils but meaningful sculptures that could be read like books.
The concept and subjects are a metaphor of the self-realization and transformation through utility and spiritual aim in a graphically pleasant, vibrant, easy catching aesthetical choice.
