We ran a series of mini workshops over a space of 3 months at Petchey Academy in Hackney. This was in order to build the Solar Swarm, a solar powered light installation created by the Year 8 pupils at Petchey Academy.
The swarm of ‘fireflies’ (micro-controller, LED lights), were connected together in a constantly changing network which mimics the real life behaviour of fireflies – switching on and off in response to the activity of neighbouring fireflies. The swarm was linked to solar panels for power.
