“ Спаси и сохрани “

Hoping to bring awareness about the Russian invasion in Ukraine I created a headscarf designed to protect the innocent people affected by the invasion be it child, grandparent or soldier. The tin plates contain Ukrainian and Russian words and phrases such as “peace” (мир) and “protection” (за́хист) among weapons and religious iconography that have been used throughout the invasion such as the depiction of Saint Javelin and the Ukrainian dove of peace. The cold harsh metal and heavy weight the piece bears on my head is symbolic of the pain I feel for my family and those who live both in Ukraine and Russia. Innocent Ukrainians are being killed, wrongfully murdered by bombs. Losing everything they have for no good reason. The Russian government is struggling to find willing soldiers to send to Ukraine and are storming indisposed civilians houses in the night, forcefully sending men, women and teenagers to fight, serve and die in Ukraine just to protect the pride of a corrupted politician and his friends. Protecting the civilians of Ukraine is of highest importance and the protection of Russian civilians also has to be done but only once the Russian government changes completely.
