In the space of eight weeks Drew Richards and myself designed and produced a board game called Spring. What separates it from the almost 3000 titles published each year is that this game also attempts to be socially engaged and to inspire a different cooperative behaviour. Spring talks about environmental issues whilst avoiding being didactic. The game is set in a dystopian future where humanity and all things organic have become a low priority of a powerful artificial intelligence interested entirely in a concrete and cement society of endless optimisation. All plant life has been driven out of the environment and replaced by straight lines and grey functionality. This is where Spring is born. A small rebel group fighting together for the right for natural growth. It was a great fun and a challenge to illustrate, layout and direct the appearance of Spring.
