Sydney pianist Alex Nero takes on the Greek hits Alex Nero has a goal of attracting as many Greeks and Cypriots as possible globally to his social media page in 365 days and is using the magic of song to attract humans. The Sydney musician is working closer to this goal through 'The Greek Series'. He posts a day by day video of himself enjoying the piano to Greek and Cypriot music hits on Instagram and Tik Tok. “I wanted to commit every day, so I thought I'd make it a challenge,” Alex tells The Greek Herald exclusively. Ultimately Alex hopes to create an international hub for the Greek neighborhood and share the love of Greek melody with different ethnicities as well. “I've always liked being part of the [Greek] neighborhood and connecting with people who have the same or similar interests,” says Alex. “I started this project on Christmas Day 2022 and since then, I have brought together over 20,000 people across all platforms.” As a 21-year-old, Alex explains that he's fusing current and historical Greek classics with the piano because it's something he hasn't thought many people do online. "I hope that by participating in the Greek track it can make humans experience something closer to the domestic or perhaps feel a nostalgic experience, of a person, region or a certain time in their life and awaken historical memories," he says. 'Music is my life': Alex has been playing piano since the age of six and earned two diplomas in tuning at the ages of 12 and 16, AMusA and LMusA respectively. He says he comes from a musical family that has had a "huge influence" on him. His father is a keyboardist who played on Sydney's Greek Night Golf teams and his mother is a pianist with a long classical history and a singer who toured the world. For Alex, the piano is the instrument he knows best. With 12 years of piano research and 4 years of piano education under his belt, the keys are his trade. “My favorite thing about enjoying the piano is the truth that I can be myself,” he says. "It's me and my wild creativity having a proper conversation."
