Instructions for the piece are found in image below. This piece I think is the most dissimilar to my other works. I never incorporated live playback in my pieces, but it is something that really excites me. I created the thick, black lines on the page by using actual tape on the paper. It is not cassette tape like it may imply from the title but is in fact electrical tape which was carefully marked out and placed down. The nod to tape recording and looping does however remain intentional. This black tape against the white paper creates a stark contrast, one which is highlighted further using a white gel pen to create accents on the tape working in contrast against the close black lines on the white page. This is a visual representation of each player working in contrast with one another to create an overall coherent sound. I imagine this to be the most ambient of all the pieces in the portfolio, as I have not specified musical details, just that I want the audio to be spliced and treated with effects. This way, all the sound will merge into one distortion of layers. I think this is the most deterministic I am about a piece in my portfolio with how I know I want the finished product to sound. There is an accompanying video of me adding the details onto the taped page.
